WebPorth Oer is also known as ‘Whistling Sands’ because of the sound that the tiny granules make as you walk over them. It’s one of only two beaches in Europe where this phenomenon occurs, which means that when the weather is good you’ll find a lot of people coming to the area to experience it for themselves. WebPorth Oer (also known as Porthor) is an inlet of the Irish Sea located on the Llyn Peninsula in the north west of Wales. Porth Oer is located north of Aberdaron and west of Rhoshirwaun. The beach is known as Whistling Sands (because of the squeaking sound made by the sand as you walk on it). The beach is in the care of the National Trust.
